I’m Kyle Mackenzie Sullivan, a Birmingham-based filmmaker, director, animator, and camera operator. I bounce between documentary, narrative work, and unscripted television, and I’m part of a production team that delivers 40+ episodes of Outdoor Channel programming every year. On that side of the world, I’m often in the field as a camera operator on shows like Ranch America, Jason The Butcher, Dead Meat, and The Fishmonger. I’ve also worked on narrative and documentary productions under A24, Magnolia Pictures, Questlove, and Angel Studios.
A lot of people found me through Trekspertise (my long-running Star Trek video essay series), or the Wikisurfer podcast. I run two YouTube channels (Trekspertise + my personal channel). I’ve built a career that ricochets between indie films, commercial work, nonprofit projects, and stories involving multiple Native American Nations. I also received top honors in a 6th grade car tag design contest. It has truly been all downhill from there.
My academic background is anthropology (BA, with a biology minor), which mostly means I can’t stop asking “what’s really going on here?” even when I should be eating lunch or exporting a finished edit. That instinct has taken me to strange, interesting places, including a month filming wildlife in Antarctica, where I learned that penguins absolutely, unequivocally do not respect call times.
